Thank you, Cary and Fox River Grove First Responders!
On the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America and the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, we can’t think of a better time to thank our town’s first responders.
As Cary and Fox River Grove continue to grow, first responders remain an essential part of our communities. Police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and 911 dispatchers are the first contact for anyone facing a crisis. We don’t often see these individuals outside their official roles, which can create a separation between first responders and the people they serve.
Both towns’ fire and police departments have gone out of their way to change that with events that let adults and children meet first responders face-to-face and better understand the work they do every day.
Community Safety Day took place at the beginning of summer. Kids got a free icecream cone, met the Hamburglar, and climbed aboard a real fire truck.
This year's National Night Out in Cary didn't dissapoint. Food trucks lined the parking lot at Kaper Park to quench the hunger and thirst of families as they checked out tactical police vehicles and tools at the Cary Municipal Center.
Visitors enjoyed the chance to take pictures inside a rescue helicopter and tried their aim at dunking the Deputy Police Chief in the water tank. Those who wandered inside the police station got a better look at the jail and tried on a pair of "drunk" goggles to see if they could pass a walking test. The evening ended in an impressive drone and fireworks show.
This August, after a years-long hiatus, the Cary Firefighters Association Water Fight was a hit with wonderful weather and solid crowds. Cary came in second and third place against Wilmot who came in first and fourth.
