One Last Ride: Cary Cruise Night Wraps Up the Season

“That's a rare one!” someone enthused at the sight of a century-old Harley. The antique bike had an original instructional plaque reading, “Fill every week with distilled water only. Never Use Acid.” A few spots behind it, a family ate pizza at a folding table in front of a sleek black 70s muscle car.
These were just two of a record 190 vehicles proudly displayed at the final Cary Cruise Night of 2026.
The cars and bikes lined the blocked-off downtown West Main St and filled the surrounding parking lots, overflowing back to the train station.

Many of them had showcased their rides in one of the other 12 themed nights this season. Some, like Joe Parisi, who took home the 2nd place “Best of Cary trophy, were there for the first time that night.
His thoroughly “Reef Turquoise” ‘66 Pontiac Catalina has made many other appearances at other area cruise nights. No doubt, the teal beauty elicited the same praise as one admirer here who looked in and marveled, “Wow, even the floor mats are perfect”
The cars on display included a stunning amount of lovingly maintained Chevelles and Bel Airs. A small fleet of antique pedal cars were frequently enduring very short “test drives” by enthusiastic children.
There was even a vehicular turducken of a vintage van with bikes in it! Jeff Schwartz's ‘77 Chevy G20 held a Yamaha and a Maico in its spacious body.
While the large, boisterous crowd wandered, oohed and ahhed and envied, two DJ booths spun bouncy summer tunes.

In the bank parking lot: STAR 105.5, in front of Leo's 121 on Main: Music Connections with DJ Kathy Ewing of Island Lake.
DJ Kathy kept the fun going, leading several rounds of a Hula Hoop contest, promising "You get not one but TWOOOOO lollipops today!” to any and all brave enough to put their hips to the challenge.
She also laid down the literal law. First, urging cyclists to walk their bikes through the cruise area. Later warning, “If you do a burnout, you WILL get a ticket! Please, there are crowds here, there are families, no burnouts, please!”
Good thing too, as the sound and smell of cars rolling out at the end of the event was already a LOT less beautiful than their looks.
Still, the cars being traffic-directed out with some pomp and circumstance made for a little parade in and of itself.
A blue ‘57 Chevy Bel Air entertained on its way out. It let out several “AWOOOGAs" after someone in the Cary Ale House parking lo yelled, “Honk the Horn!” provoking a big cheer from all around.

We enjoyed the last night of Cary Cruise Night, and hope you did too. If you have any pictures to share, please leave them in the comments!
