United Women in Faith (UWFaith) Rummage Sale and Cary Boy Scout Car Show

It was a community effort to put on the annual United Women in Faith Rummage Sale.
The Fellowship Hall, lobby, front lawn and parking lot of Cary United Methodist Church were all taken over by the big rummage sale, car show and cookout.
On July 20-22, members of Cary’s branch of United Women in Faith and other volunteers from the church community pitched in to get that weekend’s sale ready.
They accepted donations, folded and sorted a staggering amount of donated clothes, staging gently used furniture into dining room sets or minibars, and createforder from 20 or so chaotic tables piled high with donated goods.
What is United Women in Faith?
United Women in Faith, formerly United Methodist Women, is a charitable committee that runs several events throughout the year. The group focuses on improving the lives of women and children both close to and far from home.
Funds raised and goods collected benefit Kids Above All, Cary Senior Center, Cary-Grov Food Pantry, NAMI of McHenry County, Home of the Sparrow, and Turning Point as well as internal causes like their College Care Ministry. Last year’s sale brought in $4000
Cary Boy Scouts Pitching In
Also there lending hands and raising money was Boy Scout Troop 160. The oldest troop in Cary, they are currently celebrating their 92nd year of scouting.
Dressed in matching yellow t-shirts they helped bring in the donations, break down the tables, and carry away unsold merch at the end of sale.
While the troop was there at the request of UWFaith, they ran a cookout in the parking lot on the last day of the sale to raise money for their own cause…desperately needed new tents.
Classic Cars Drawing Eyes from the Road
Anyone driving north on 1st st on Saturday was struck by an unusual sight. Classic cars from several decades lined up on the church lawn.
United Methodist Men arranged the car show. The sound of oldies played from a makeshift DJ booth at the front of the church and the good weather held out as people looked under hoods and talked to proud owners.
