Cary Apothecary Offers Healthy Living and Authentic Small-Town Vibes

By Kristine Ensor

Tami Moore-Kedzie invited me to Cary Apothecary on a Friday, which she claimed was her slow day.

The minute I stepped into the store, the soothing aromas, sounds, and shelves of enticing goodies, beckoned me to stay. Sitting in the reading nook, surrounded by books and candles, I looked forward to a relaxing conversation. It didn’t take long for me to realize that Tami’s idea of “slow” was different from mine.

During the short time I was there, we had only a few minutes to talk before a new customer walked in. She hopped up to greet them with a welcoming smile. Tami’s energy is a bit shocking in comparison to the store’s relaxing vibe, but it explains her success.

Tami flawlessly manages life as a mother of four, a full-time business owner, and a part-time staff member at District 26. She’s also one of those women who seems to know everyone and everything going on in town. That’s likely one of the reasons customers are so passionate and loyal to her and the store.

The other reason is Tami’s openness about her own personal experiences with traditional and natural health care. After a debilitating journey with Lyme Disease that included a misdiagnosis and issues with traditional medicine, she searched for anything that could help. A two-week stay at an all-natural clinic offered her a path forward.

While Tami isn’t against taking modern medicine, her doctors work with her to live a lifestyle she’s comfortable with. That lifestyle includes a variety of vitamins, pro-biotics, healthy eating, chiropractic care, etc. “Some days are worse than others,” she says “,but now I’m equipped to take care of most issues on my own.”

Today, Tami never offers customers products or services she hasn’t tried herself. “If I wouldn’t do it, I won’t offer it to other people.” Tami started Cary Apothecary with a desire to provide healthy options that don’t cost an arm and a leg. She must be doing something right, because the store continues to grow.

Cary Apothecary’s first location opened only two years ago, in the summer of 2024. Most who visited were already followers of homeopathy and welcomed a store like hers in town, but it didn’t take long for her to feel the drive to do more. Within a year, she was ready to take the next step and move to a new spot on First Street, near Rt. 14.

Cary Apothecary’s new location provides enough space to offer the same natural products people loved along with some new services. Two new massage rooms and additional certified staff lets Cary Apothecary offer Biomat therapy, Bodywork, Vibration Plate Therapy, Red Light Therapy, and Reiki.

These new therapies add another level of care and service to a store that already brings more to town than just a place to shop.

Cary Apothecary is located at 20 N. 1st Street, open from 1pm-6pm Wednesday through Friday and 1pm-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday, June 26 at 5:30-7:30pm is Cary Apothecary’s 2nd Anniversary Celebration featuring mini reiki sessions, local bakers, fresh flowers, tarot card readings, raffle, and more.
