A Commonsseur Review of La Pizza Via
So, my wife wanted to check out the new Magical Forest Bookstore in Fox River Grove. I was like, “Yeah, sure, I could do that,” since it happens to be right next to Needle Drop, the new record store.
I figured I could swing in there to check out some records while she did her thing. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long before she was back to drag me out, and I had to leave the five or six albums I wanted behind.
We were kind of hungry, so my wife left to grab some sushi as my daughter and I went to check out the nearest pizza place, La Pizza Via. We walked in, and I immediately caught sight of a couple of “Best of the Fox” awards. The place has been around for over ten years, so clearly, I was a little late to the party.

I looked up at the menu and saw that there were basically three choices. Ok, they did have garlic knots, calzones, stuffed breads, salads, and wings, but I was there for pizza, right?
So, they got New York style, which I'm not eating. They got something called Detroit style. When I asked the guy what that was, he said it was basically pan pizza. So, ok, I don’t want that.
That left me with the cracker crust. I ordered that with sausage, and my daughter ordered the Cavatapi and cheese. Basically, a funny-sounding mac and cheese.
My wife joined us at La Pizza Via to eat her sushi as we waited for our meal. Our food comes out piping hot, and I'm already happy.

I dig into my pizza, and I gotta tell you, when they said cracker, they meant it. This isn't like Chicago tavern, you know, kind of crunchy thin. No, it's like someone took a saltine cracker minus the salt and then put a pizza on top. It's just straight-up cracker, and it's good.
I liked the sausage too. It was a good classic Chicago Italian sausage flavor. The sauce was mild, a basic tomato flavor, and the cheese wasn’t overwhelming. Overall, it was a real nice standard Chicago thin crust pizza.
I may have been a little late to the party, but I’m glad I made it in time. I totally approve of La Pizza Via, but what do I know, I’m just a Commonsseure.
By the way, my daughter ate as much as she could of her Cavatapi and cheese, and devoured the rest of it when we got home. So, I guess that's a thumbs up from her too.
